Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Dinwiddie County
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Now in Dinwiddie County
Williamsburg, Virginia (4/17/2025) – QuickStart Children of Virginia (QCV) is thrilled to report Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) is now available to all 1,436 kids under age five in Dinwiddie County. Read To Them, a Richmond literacy nonprofit, stepped up to become the local DPIL sponsor. The startup funding was generously provided by Dinwiddie Moose Lodge #1993 with a partial match by QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia. Kimberly Fehrs, Imagination Library Coordinator for Read To Them, has organized the Local Advisory Group for Dinwiddie with an assist from Penny Brooks, Program Administrator: Early Learning & Literacy for Dinwiddie County Public Schools.
QCV Founder Lynda Harrill says, “We’ve been working with Dinwiddie for 15 years – hardly seems possible. We started with training and equipping for QuickStart Tennis in the county’s school PE programs and now have helped get Dolly going. We’re all about physical activity, healthy eating and a love of reading. Kids who are physically active and develop their motor skills also show better cognitive development. That’s why tennis is such a natural tie-in to reading. We’re also all about getting the entire local community involved in whatever we do. It’s going to take all of us to fix the literacy shortfalls in Virginia. We need to step up and that’s what the Moose Lodge and Read To Them have done for kids in Dinwiddie. We are very grateful for their support for Imagination Library and look forward to seeing all the smiles Dolly’s books will bring to children’s faces in Dinwiddie.”

QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia, Inc. (aka QuickStart Children of Virginia) is an all-volunteer, grassroots Community Tennis Association established in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization to promote, develop and grow QuickStart Tennis in Virginia for all beginners, especially underserved and at-risk youth, using the kid-sized QuickStart Tennis format. We leverage the fun of tennis to promote lifelong physical activity, healthy eating/lifestyle habits and a love of reading in the communities we serve. We believe early childhood literacy will solve many socioeconomic problems and produce kids who will succeed in school and in life.
