Deep Roots

Midway Elementary School is a public elementary school of 403 students located in the rural farming community of Dinwiddie County about 30 minutes south of Richmond, VA. Midway was founded in 1911 and spring of 2017 marked the 100th year anniversary of its first graduating class consisting of five students. Midway’s community consists of:  80% White, 3% Hispanic/Latino, 13% Black or African American, 3% Two or more races, 44% Economically Disadvantaged, <1% English Learners (Arabic, Italian, Spanish), <1% Gifted Students, and 10% Special Education Students.  The average overall attendance is 88%.

As a 2017 National Blue Ribbon Award recipient, Midway Elementary School has experienced continued success in maintaining its quest for academic excellence. Failure is not an option, and the mission of Midway drives the commitment of all stakeholders—students are provided the opportunity for the most individualized education possible.   By offering developmentally appropriate programs, students enter kindergarten and progress through all other grades ready to realize success. Our students are proficient with computer technology, communication skills, reading and mathematics.
